Life In Kanazawa
Here is an update on my life. Everything is comfortable and good. I am happy even though nothing special is going on.
Since we last talked, Peter and Jane moved out. I was very glad to have Jane move out as we did not click and I just wound up feeling like a stranger in my own house. I was sad to see Peter leave. He was a great roommate. Very kind and courteous, but ever since I started going out with Yoshiko and his girlfriend came over to trounce around the house for a month and a half wearing shoes inside we were not as close. Still he is a great and caring guy and wish him only the best in life.
I was hoping to move into the tatami room and have the place all by myself. I have moved into the tatami room, but no such luck on the roommate situation. Fortunately, Ben from Australia moved in, followed by Dave (who went through orientation and training with me). They have been nothing short of a blast. We get along wonderful. None of us have been in bed before 3am since they arrived. Instead we stay up until the wee hours of the morning playing Othello, Clue, or watching the British Soap Eastenders and drinking coffee and tea. Besides their “cupper” they are constantly taking breaks to have a “fag”, but I guess I shouldn’t hold that against them. It seems just about everyone everywhere but America smokes. They do it outside as well so its no bother to me.
I have been slowly making the apartment a better place, one trip to the 100yen store at a time. We now have a smelly thing in the toilet, mold killer for the tub and a bucket for the umbrellas. I love the 100yen store. You can buy just about everything you’d ever need for about $1–from plants to shirts and ties to tupperwear to wrenches its all there.
I go through phases of hating work and then liking it. Right now I like it pretty well. I also go through phases of wanting to go home, transfer to Tokyo and transfer to Kyushu. My indecisiveness and the stability of my relationship means I’ll probably just stay in Kanazawa for awhile. But I feel I have gotten all I can out of the city unless I buy a car–something I’d rather not do. Still, I might just wait until Ben and Dave move out (July and September, respectively).
