Innocence
GRRRR
This movie is an experience not to be missed. The artwork is a fantastic mix of 3D renderings and traditional cel animation composited in a manner that really reinforces the blurred distinctions between reality and fantasy as well as between the organic and the mechanical in the GitS universe.
The subs were done in a cool typeface that you don’t get in the DVD releases, since it has to be printed on the film vs. the DVD’s simple overlays.
Supposedly there’s a new Appleseed movie in the pipe that has a similar level of 3D production values, but I don’t know if it will be anything even remotely comprable to this movie in the style department. The movie takes full advantage of the animation techniques available.
I think this is the movie that Oshii wanted to create the first time around, but you can’t understand the sequel without seeing the first. There’s also a 26-episode series based in the same universe.
This post is a little disjointed because I’m saving my energy from the movie for a lengthy discussion of some of the points made in the movie. Regardless, expect this film to occupy my ranting for quite some time to come.

Hmm…I’m not sure if the DVD here has subtitles or not. I was wanting to rent it yesterday but it was sold out. I have a bunch of DVDs you should look at BTW.
