Help out your government, run a red light

The last time I was summoned for jury duty, the prosecution excused me from a drunk driving case after I testified my beliefs about the highway patrol. First and foremost, highway patrol are here to raise tax revenue; all traffic violations are selectively enforced taxation. Highway patrol officers are moderns versions of this guy.

Take a look at this abomination. A city council near Des Moines, Iowa planned their budget around how much money they expected to earn from stoplight violations. They expected to earn over 100 times more than they actually do. While this should be a good thing — since people are not running stoplights — the city council is disappointed in the revenue shortfall.

Government should never profit off of vice. This includes cigarettes, alcohol, everything.
