The Spirit of Old Japan: On the Road to Takayama

2004年4月29日2時51分

Picture of TakayamaAfter two days in Japan we started our long journey across a bunch of prefectures. We bought some stuff, saw some stuff and heard some stuff. Keep reading for the long winded version spiced with Erick wits and insights. What? You read it and it was neither witty nor insightful? Well exCUSE me! You get what you pay for, which in this case, is nothing. In fact, it is less than nothing because under normal circumstances I would be paying top dollar to bring this to you. So if you want to see what else passes for a witty trip in Japan, then I highly suggest you go and google it. Okay, without futher ado (well besides my email address): the link –>

Revisionist Japanese History

2004年4月23日12時12分

[The Japanese Foreign Ministry] failed to deliver in time the declaration of war against the United States in 1941 so that Japan became forever known as a sneak-attack nation.

So according to the Times, Japan’s sneak attack of Pearl Harbor was merely the result of a couple hours delay in getting word to America. As if that would have made any difference. Sadly, I would not be surprised if this is the version of history that every Japanese High School student learns.

The article is an otherwise interesting account of how the Japanese hostages were shunned upon their arrival in the country.

iPhotoToGallery Version 0.51

2004年4月22日14時39分

Back in Janurary I came across an excellent program called iPhotoToGallery by Zachary Wily that made exporting my iPhoto Library to Gallery a breeze.

My only complaint about the application was that when his plugin resized photos for you all the EXIF data was lost. Well Zachary has released version 0.51-beta (back in Februrary) which fixes that very problem among many others. The best of which is that Gallery sites and passwords are now saved after closing iPhoto.

Download iPhotoToGallery for yourself.

The tour is over so now you get the opportunity to view the photos and read my comments about the trip. Lucky you! The first two days were spent in Tokyo. We stayed in a nice hotel, visited the Meiji shinto shrine, the Emperor’s palace and a buddhist temple.

You may view the Tokyo photos here.

So, yeah. I think I might just post once in a while here to see what’s up and because it’s good for my self-esteem to think that people care about what I have to say.

Here’s what I’m up to! (This is my first post in a Movable Type blog so hell if I know if this is going to format the way I expect…)
