Bush-Cheney ’04 Campaign Chairman Gov. Marc Racicot issued the following statement regarding the MoveOn.Org ad:
“When John Kerry speaks before the National Guard today, he should apologize for the actions of his surrogates and demand that they take down their ad depicting a defeated American soldier.
“John Kerry’s campaign is rooted in the past, hollow with pessimism, and preaching defeat to the American people.
“John Kerry’s continually shifting positions on Iraq and his sinking rhetoric of a defeated America send a signal to our allies and our enemies that America is not willing to finish the job. This attitude undermines the great progress that the men and women in America’s armed forces have made in the fight against terror around the world. America expects more from one who aspires to the position of Commander-in-Chief.”
We need more men like Marc and less like Dan Rather. It is amazing how many of my students watch Fahrenheit 9/11, take everything Moore says as gospel and suddenly view the USA as a horrible place. While Kerry or some other guy may or may not make a better president than Bush, the differences between the actual policies they would enact are minimal at best. We are all Americans, and we all think like Americans. Come live in a foreign country such as I do and you will quickly understand how strong and deeply rooted our way of life is embedded in our culture as Americans and how different that culture is from the rest of the world. Mr. Moore, the New York Times and all the other liberal institutions need to understand what a huge disservice they are doing to America, Americans and themselves each and everytime they compare Bush to Hitler or illude to the US being a fascist, authoritarian regime.
The rest of the world does not get Fox News or even the Los Angeles Times. Their version of what America is comes purely from institutions like the New York Times and CBS. You wonder why 9/11 happened? You wonder why the rest of the world hates us? Try reading the perverted views of the Times and come to the opinion that America is an amazing country. It is impossible. All the articles either say that “America is good after all” or “Your positive opinion of America is wrong and here is why”. There is never a cheerleading article, trying to pursuade its readers of the greatness of America. The rest of the world hears this for a quarter of a century and without experiencing the US directly, begins to resent America and all its lackings because we never remind them of our successes. This is a sad state of affairs.
