Chinese Ban Cartoons

2006年2月28日8時47分

communism.jpgWhat?? What is wrong with the world? First a bunch of muslim lunatics bomb Europeans and their property because someone drew a picture of Muhammad with a bomb on his head. Now China has banned all movies that mix live action and animation.

China has announced a ban on TV shows and movies that blend animated elements with live-action actors, a move aimed at nurturing local animators and apparently curbing the use of foreign cartoons.

Who knew that cartoons were such an important and inflammatory subject! It is unacceptable that the communist government feels it must dictate whether its subjects may watch Who Framed Roger Rabbit? All this in the name of protectionism.

The cartoon ban is intended to “promote the development and prosperity of the cartoon industry in China,” said the statement issued by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television.

Communist China is overstepping its bounds.

MMO Games Waste Your Life

2006年2月23日6時57分

recipe.PNGSlashdot links to an argue detailing why MMOs like World of Warcraft reward wrong behavoir. The whole system is designed to turn you into a thoughtless drone. While none of us look to these sorts of games to teach us things about morality (or the lack thereof), we should be aware that the reward sturcture in these games could effect us in subtle ways when we approach problems.

Mac In Touchy Feely

Apple has filed some patents on touchscreen technology. I think they might make something like the Nintendo DS with a second screen on the bottom that lets you do amazingly cool things.

300% Debt

2006年2月17日12時23分

There are some scary things coming out of Japan. An increasing number of Japanese want to cease investing in the United States in order to increase the liquidity of the Japanese financial market and encourage domestic growth.

[The] ratio of [US] debt to GDP now exceeds 300 percent, nearly the same as during the Great Depression.

Japan should withdraw its dollar-based overseas assets

It sounds like it is time to invest overseas.

Elbow, Grease, Polish

I have updated the website’s look. I did not do any radical changes since I like the general feeling of the wood-chips. But Sean a nice style sheet. I took some ques from his design (specifically the presentation of the links on the right) and incorporated them into my design. I also removed even more of the layout structure from the .html and moved it into the .css file where it belongs.

I’ll open up comments. Let me know your thoughts.

catmousebunnydog_1.jpgDvorak’s prediction that Apple will switch to a Windows OS is about as likely as seeing this animal grouping in the wild.

The Onion Predicts the Future

2006年2月16日20時15分

Gillette finally listened to the exec screaming, “I don’t care if they have to cram the fifth blade in perpendicular to the other four, just do it!” Perhaps all of you are going to run out and buy the new Gillette Fusion now. After all, “shaving with anything less than five blades is like scraping your beard off with a dull hatchet.”

Google is eerily prescient about the future

We return to All Quiet on the Arabian Front

2006年2月16日20時00分

Muslim Wakeup makes two true points: the first is that we should respect Hamas’ right to rule Palestine just like we do in Iran; the second is that the Middle East is stuck in the middle ages.

Fatah treating the people like a feudal lord and Hamas invoking a medieval past

Ann Coulter sums it up properly:

Muslims immediately engage in acts of mob violence when things don’t go their way. That is de rigueur for the Religion of Peace. Their immediate response to all bad news is mass violence.

This should be no news.

Hurray for Cocoa

2006年2月16日5時13分

WARNING: the following post throws no bile (FoxNews reader translation: fair and balanced information) towards the Middle East. Injuries and/or death due to shock leading to HORROR are not our responsibility. You have been warned.

So an army of programmers (or should that just be, programmer) has taken the SolarSeek torch! That means that by the time I get married and have children who are now in Junior high, there might be a new SolarSeek version. Alright. Rock on brother!

I have taken a look at some of the new code he has written. First and foremost, he is apparently part of some secret Apple/cocoa society. He conjured up a clean, sleek and amazing way for making remote TCP stream connections. This digital alchemist has erased the cause of tens of thousands of crash reports being sent to Apple (Apple Tech: “What is this godforsaken SolarSeek program that prints crash reports like Argentina does money?”). In one fail swoop, they will be gone from the next version.

Hurray! Double Hurray!

Although that does beg the question…If I applied for a job with Apple, would SolarSeek be a help: “Right on, you created a program a bunch of people downloaded”; or a hinderance: “So YOU are the guy who wrote that thing…oh yes. We know ALL about THAT…program.”?

Hamas Is Not Moderate

2006年2月10日18時00分

People who assume that Hamas will suddenly, magically become moderate because it gained power are crazy. Why do so many Westerners foolishly believe that people in power become more moderate. Has Bush moderated himself since taking office. What about all the leaders who, elected for their extreme views, carried out those extreme views: Germany, Italy, Russia, Serbia…

Further more, why do we ignore what these Arabic leaders say in Arabic and insist their defenses of their actions in English are their true feelings. Craziness!

Hamas does not believe in the right of Israel to exist. They want to actively seek the death of Israelis. The voters were fully aware of this fact (almost certainly more so than Americans are). The voters overwhelmingly elected Hamas into power.

The only conclusion we can make from this is that Palestinians both want to destroy Israel and have given Hamas a mandate to do so.
