Update: False Terrorism Fears

The Wall Street Journal includes my thoughts about our country’s false terrorism fears in some responses to Kimberley Strassel’s article about what conservatives have to learn from Paul’s candidacy.

Fox Affiliates Reacting to Irate Paul Supporters?

2008年1月20日5時36分

Local Fox affiliate airs a 5 min interview with Rep. Paul and afterwards tells viewers their network is not silencing Paul’s views.  Also mentions the incident with Paul protestors and Sean Hannity (Democratic activists were very amused to see Fox News people chased down by an angry mob carrying American flags).

In other news, Ron Paul got first place in Nevada’s Nye county, second place statewide.   Also, supporters claim he won many precincts, which may positively increase his delegate count (above his 14% finish) to around 20%-33% of the total of Nevada’s delegates.

He also continues to crush Rudy Giuliani when- and wherever votes are cast, beating him in South Carolina and in Nevada (along with everyone else sans Romney).

Speaking of Paul: John Derbyshire is my new hero.  Must be my Eastern European heritage that makes me treasure liberty.

Obama is on record as the first liberal to understand Reagan, perhaps that means he’ll hop on the Paul bandwagon next?

Final note: the most obnoxious thing in that video is hearing legitimate reporters call him “Dr. Paul“.  I don’t support Paul because of his pap smear experience; I want him to run the country.  His 20 years in Congress is far more relevant in this regard.  Therefore Mr., Rep. or Cong. is the best title to use in front of his name.

Do Your Work, Then Step Back

I am reading a book on Taoism. The ideas and concepts of balance and non-doing speak to how I understand my spirituality. My goal is to read and memorize every chapter in the book; there are 81 of them.

Today is the New Hampshire primary, so I found the following verse especially appropriate for today:

“When the Master governs, the people
hardly notice he exists.
The next best leader is one who is loved.
Next, one who is feared.
The worst is one who is despised.”

What a fascinating way to view politics. The harder Ron Paul supporters strive for better governing, the more they are despised. Is there a way to solve such a dilemma? This reminds me of another verse:

“Free from desire, you see the mystery.
Caught in it, you see only the manifestations.”

This morning I realize once again that, with or without my permission, the world will blossom into its own being. We are the seeds in this world, but we are also its gardners. The harder we struggle to make one side better, the more we lose focus on the other. For it is neither the seeds nor the gardners that make flowers bloom, but the way they work together.

So politics are best resolved by removing your own personal feelings. Play your part and then let go. Let events transpire as they may.

That certainly makes talking and thinking about the particulars less interesting.

Where’s America’s Economy?

Exported to China to pay for a phony war in Iraq and phony profits to Washington Mutual and Citi, that’s where.

Watch this film from China. It’s the most important thing you’ll learn all year.
